What to expect . . .
Our primary goal is to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for kids to learn the game of volleyball.
The programs offered at Spiking Stars YVA are designed to teach new, or newish athletes, to the sport of volleyball the fundamentals of passing (bumping and volleying), serving and spiking.
Programming will be run out of a gym in the Clarington area. We keep our group sizes low to ensure each child gets a lot of touches and one on one support when needed.
We use a lighter ball for the younger groups and sometimes lower nets and a smaller court to help our athletes gain more confidence and reduce their risk of injury. The lighter ball also has the benefit of being easier on your child’s forearms which helps your child remain engaged in the activity throughout each session.
About Coach Taylor
I am a high school physical education teacher and volleyball coach, and I have been teaching and coaching volleyball in the area for over 20 years. I currently teach at Bowmanville High School and have helped establish a course that focuses primarily on skill development in both volleyball and basketball.
One of the most common comments I hear in this class is how the students, especially the boys, wished they had started playing volleyball earlier. I knew that the reason they fell in love with the game was because they now had the skills and the knowledge to play volleyball at a higher level. The opportunities to learn and play basketball are everywhere, but it seemed harder to find options for younger athletes to learn and practice volleyball.
My hope is to provide quality volleyball instruction in the Clarington area and give younger athletes a safe space to learn, have fun, and fall in love with the game.
